Heading into Barkley Sound

Ucluelet is a small community of about 1,500 people, located on the central-western coast of Vancouver Island at the northern edge of Barkley Sound. Ucluelet is not that far from Tofino and lies between Long Beach and the Broken Group Island – two sections of the Pacific Rim National Park. In recent years, Ucluelet has witnessed construction of retirement resorts, and a burgeoning of its tourism industry.

Ucluelet is the starting point of the Wild Pacific Trail, a popular wilderness trail among hikers. It begins at the mouth of the Ucluelet Inlet at Amphitrite Point and continues north through rocky headlands to the Weyerhaeuser forest lands.
