Being a new parent can be extremely terrifying as you are constantly thinking that you don’t know what you are doing and that you will eventually do something wrong. Everything you used to know how to do now changes as you need to take the needs of a baby into account. For example, taking a car trip will not be the same anymore. Here are a few changes that you should expect and tips on how to deal with them.

1. Estimating the travel time
Most GPS software and apps have a time estimation depending on your speed and the length of the trip saying how long it will take for you to arrive at your destination. However, that estimation flies out the window when you have a toddler. If you have a baby in the car, you can take that ETA and add anywhere from one to three hours to it in order to make it accurate, depending on how far you are traveling.

2. Bring a bucket
Children will get carsick a lot. This is a lesson that most parents have to find out the hard way, but it would be really useful to keep a bucket or a sickness bag on hand in the car when this happens.

3. Bring along entertainment
A small child cannot simply sit in silence. If you do not want them to cry all the way there, make sure that they have plenty of stuff to keep them entertained. This can either be toys, music they like or a movie if you have a DVD player in the rear seats.
