Sembalun Bumbung is a village in the northeast region of the Indonesian island of Lombok. It is located at the southern region of a steep valley filled with garlic plants. Sembalun Bumbung is often passed through by climbers looking to trek up Mount Rinjani via Sembalun Lawang. Sembalun Bumbung is linked to Sembalun Lawang via a 2.5-kilometer road that is very treacherous to use.[1]

From Sembalun Bumbung, it takes about four or five hours to hike the 16 kilometers south of the mountains and reach Pesugulan. From there, you can take advantage of the frequent public transportation and whisk yourself along the cross-island highway to Mataram, the capital of Lombok.[2]

Like its twin village, Sembalun Lawang, Sembalun Bumbung’s soil is conducive to growing garlic and shallots, making Sembalun Bumbung one of the richer villages on Lombok. Sembalun Bumbung also shares with its twin villages similar influences in Javanese dance, music, and language.[3]
