Getting to and from any place in Canada can be a slow process simply because it’s a big country,  there are many ways of travelling though so try including as many as possible on different legs of your travels in order to see and experience different things.

One of the best ways to travel between certain places, such as Vancouver and the Gulf islands is by sea plane.  Going by ferry can be an excellent trip but sea plan can save you half a day of travelling, connections and more importantly flying on a sea plane is a fun thing to do.

When our stay on Salt Spring Island was at an end we chose to return to Vancouver direct by sea plane and chartered a flight on Salt Spring Air.  The Salt Spring Air team were extremely helpful even to the point of scheduling a departure on a Sunday morning to accommodate our trip.

Before departure there was a small wait because fog had descended on Vancouver, but after 20 minutes we were loaded and ready for take off.

Sea Planes look very small, but to be honest there was more leg room than on some economy long haul flights!

The take off itself was exhilarating as we accelerated out from Ganges Harbour and left the water soaring above sailboats below.

With a flight time from Salt Spring Island to Vancouver of a mere 25 minutes, you simply cannot go wrong.  Most of the journey is spent watching the sea below until mainland British Columbia comes into view once again.  After a quick detour around the flight path of Vancouver international airport it was back on course for a Vancouver landing.

The views over Stanley Park were stunning as we came in to land, all in all a great way to travel.
