Vienna may seem like the place for cafe culture, but it offers so much more. Families of all ages will enjoy the many opportunities for fun in this light-hearted city.

Museums that kids will love

ZOOM Children’s Museum
With a variety of exhibitions and hands-on programs, Zoom Children’s Museum appeals to kids  from 8 months old to teens. Little ones will have wonderful tactile experiences to stimulate their senses. Older children can view the exhibits, try some experiments in the Zoom Lab or create art work in the studio.

Museum of Fine Arts
This museum will capture the imagination of children and adults alike. Here you will find a great variety of collections, from Egyptian mummies to artwork of the masters from around the world. This is also the home of the most important collection of medieval royal objects: the insignia and jewels of the Holy Roman Empire, including the Imperial Crown and the Holy Lance.

Museum of Modern Art – MUMOK
Kids under 6 years old are admitted free every day, but Sundays are the days when kids ages 6-12 can voice their opinion about the current exhibitions and can try their hand at creating their own masterpiece in the museum’s atelier.

KunstHausWien
Expect to be surprised by this bizarre, modern art museum. From the building itself to the philosophy of its architect, Friedenstreich Hunterwasser, you will not be disappointed. At the box office, kids will get a bag with contents that will help them design their own Kunsthaus– with prizes for great pictures.

House of Music
At this special museum, you can experience music with all your senses. Conduct an orchestra! Give a kettledrum a good pound! Hear what you heard as a baby in your mother’s belly! Experiment with music on the computer, play gigantic instruments or just record your very own CD! There are also special tours and concerts just for kids.

Museum of Technology

This museum offers something for everyone. There are interactive media stations where you can learn about natural phenomena and historical events. The “mini-museum” is an adventure area exclusively dedicated to kids ages 2 to 6 years. The mini offers the opportunity for children to learn with all senses: Sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste.
