Cala Figuera, a tranquil and picturesque fishing village situated in a bay surrounded by cliffs, is one of the most scenic spots on the island of Mallorca and a world away from the tourist crowds. The setting is postcard picturesque with houses hanging off the cliffs above whitewashed boat houses with green colored doors. In the harbor below, sail boats peacefully rest on crystal clear turquoise waters while local fishermen mend nets on the pier – you get the feeling that time has stood still.

cala-figuera-6Many of the nearly 600 permanent inhabitants of this enchanting fishing port are working fishermen, making a living by delivering the daily catch to the fish market 60 km away in Palma. Cala Figuera is not an upbeat, trendy place offering lots of activities and its night life is not really worth mentioning. The village is small and authentic; the atmosphere unpretentious and wonderfully relaxing. The concept of stress surely didn’t come from Cala Figuera. Like a Mallorquin friend once stated: “Here we enjoy life, every bit of it.” Come here to unwind – and to be inspired.

What to See & Do

fisherman-repairing-net-in-cala-figueraGet up early in the morning, long before breakfast, to watch the fishing boats coming in, and the fishermen emptying and mending their nets. It is a fascinating, special experience.

Cala Figuera has its breathtaking views, but it doesn’t have a beach, which probably has saved the village from mass tourism. The closest beach front is Cala Santanyi, approximately four km away. This beach is best accessed by way of the miniature train, “Cala Figuera Express”, which runs continuously during the summer season.

cala-figuera-4There are a few places in the harbor offering a variety of activities such as scuba diving, fishing and boat excursions, and mountain bike rentals.

The disco, MondBar, serves great cocktails and you can dance to the latest pop hits on the open-air dance floor. Its is a good option for a night out during the summer season.

Not only hotel guests staying at Hotel Villa Sirena may use their spacious terrace, it is open for everyone and it is the perfect spot on a sunny afternoon to drink sangria and enjoy the magnificent view of the sea and the Cala Figuera light house.
