Youth Hostels

Astor’s Quest Hostel Inexpensive
The Astor hostels were established in 1974 as the first independent youth hostels in London. They are aimed at 18-35 year olds. The Quest hostel is the newest youth hostel and has mainly dormitory-style rooms for up to ten people, although there are some smaller twin-bedded rooms. It’s in a great area, close to Hyde park itself, to Kensington Palace and Gardens, to Portobello Road, and to Paddington station from where it is just a 15 minute journey to Heathrow airport on the Heathrow Express. There are lots of pubs, cafes, restaurants and cinemas in the area and it’s a popular place for visitors from all over.

St Christopher’s Greenwich Inexpensive
This purpose-built hostel was opened in 1999 and is right next to the main Greenwich rail station. This is one of several St Christopher Hostels in London. There is plenty to see in Greenwich – not just the Dome – and once you have seen the historical town centre, the National Maritime Museum, the Queen’s House, the Old Royal Observatory, Greenwich Park, Greenwich Market and the Cutty Sark, you can catch a river boat to see more of London. If you prefer the train, central London is only 15 minutes away. The hostel itself has a coffee shop, a bar and even a theatre with reasonably-priced tickets. It has a choice of four, six and eight-bedded rooms. This is a great youth hostel and we highly recommend it.

The new Jubilee Line underground train service extension has made this area much more accessible than previously.
