Bahamas Vacation – great way to spend two weeks in the sun!

Everyone has their image of paradise, usually involving sun, sea and sand. A lot of people are spending their vacations in Bahamas year after year. There must be a reason. I have a few friends, even if they travelled the world, they do plan every year a week vacation in Bahamas. They know the best spots and the best restaurants. The beaches are amongst the finest in the world, with white or pink sands. Restaurants offer a variety of local seafood and the nightlife is superb, with clubs, casinos and live shows. The climate is sub tropical, which does mean hurricanes every so often in the summer and fall. Duty free shopping is available on leather goods, jewelry, perfume, linen, crystal, camera equipment, watches and china.

This playground in the West Indies consists of 700 islands and the capital Nassau is on New Providence. The Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place at Government House every other Saturday. Island hopping on a chartered boat is a fun way of exploring the area. Water sports are well catered for on a Bahamas vacation and scuba diving and snorkeling is ideal in the clear waters. The average year round water temperature is 80oF and the coves, coral reefs and shipwrecks make it a diver’s favorite destination. There’s an opportunity to see dolphins, stingrays and sharks. Going inland is well worth the trip too, especially if you’re interested in the local history. Cartwright’s Cave on Hamilton has examples of Indian pottery and cave markings but watch out for the bats! Mount Alvernia on Cat Island is the highest point in the Bahamas and there is an old hermitage there that was built by a priest. The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park is a refuge for many species of wildlife. Birdwatchers also enjoy a Bahamas vacation and see many birds that are native to the area.

Another favorite pastime here is golf, with several championship class 18 and 9 hole courses. Big game fishing is also popular with sportfishing enthusiasts and there are tournaments that visitors can enter. Chartered boats equipped with deep-sea tackle can be rented.

The hotels and other accommodation is world class and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. A Bahamas vacation can be active or lazily relaxing. There are so many beaches to watch the sunset from with a refreshing cocktail or two. Entertainment is on tap if you want it. Festivals, marching bands, fire dancers and calypso groups keep everything lively. You may even be tempted to have a go at limbo dancing.
