Activities in Beautiful Seattle

Seattle is one of the most cultured cities in the United States and has a full calendar of annual events. Activities Seattlestyle cater for music, film, sports, crafts and food fans alike. The famous Seahawks Stadium and Exhibition Center is the venue for the Seattle Roadster Show, a display of hot rods in February.

March is a busy month and includes the Quilters Anonymous Annual Quilt Show, an exhibition of quilts by the quilting guild, Quilters Anonymous. Visitors can learn about the different skills, such as appliqué and patchwork piecing at the Evergreen Fairgrounds. Children have lots of fun in activities Seattle has organized for them and this is especially so at the Whirligig annual carnival at Center House. There are giant inflatables, face painters and clowns. The Kids’ Arts Day is an event for parents and their children to participate in various art projects. Vegetarians in the area come together at the Vegfest, a food festival with free samples, cooking demonstrations and talks.

April has a celebration of Chinese culture at the Chinese Book Expo, where over 1,200 publications are exhibited. This month also promotes local talent at FringeAct, an event for local playwrights and new plays. May looks to Africa at the IGBO Day, with dance, music, arts and crafts from Africa and food from Nigeria. The Seattle International Film Festival runs from late May through early June.

June. The street event, Fremont Fair, takes place in June and raises awareness of anti-poverty initiatives. Activities Seattle folk most look forward to in summer include the Marysville Strawberry Festival, a time for fireworks, a parade and carnival and golf and basketball competitions.

July. Theatre is celebrated again in July with the Seattle Outdoor Theatre Festival, when classic plays are performed at Volunteer Park.

August. There is a maritime celebration in August at the Seattle Boat Show at Shilshole Bay Marina. There is a large display of boats on the water and on land and there’s a beer garden.

September. The Fall kicks off its international flavor with the September Aki Matsuri Fall Festival, a free exhibition of Japanese culture at Bellevue Community College. There are displays of martial arts, food and a Japanese Tea Ceremony demonstration.

October. German culture is displayed at the two week Oktoberfest in Leavenworth with rides, shows, music and a biergarten. ActivitiesSeattle style also look to the spiritual well being of visitors at the Mind, Body, Spirit Expo in October at the Center Expo Hall. There are displays, talks and demonstrations on aspects of holistic living and healing.

December. Activities Seattle people mark on their calendar include the December Winterfest, a month of ice-skating, concerts, dances and exhibits.
