Les Deux Magots Quartier Latin or the Latin Quarter (5th Arrondissement) is the warren of steep, sloping streets[1] generally considered the refuge of Paris’ intellectuals, artists, and bohemians.[2] It has a reputation for having a small-town atmosphere and a hip and chic feel to it. Originally established by the Romans as the ancient city of […]

There are few things in life more enjoyable than having a drink and delicious eats on a patio when the weather is divine. Spring is here and summer is right around the corner, so it’s time to don your lunettes de soleil (sunglasses) and grab a table at one of Paris’ best terrasses.

IMG_5310 The Axe Historique or Historical Axis is the line of monuments, buildings, and thoroughfares that run from the center of Paris – from the Louvre and along Champs-Élysées and Avenue de la Grand Armée all the way to the outskirts of the city at La Défense. For a spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower and a tour of some intriguing museums, head for Palais de Chaillot, in Paris’ 16th arrondisement. The Palais, which stands on a hill on the right bank of the Seine, above Trocadéro square and gardens, directly faces the Eiffel Tower across the river. Planning to be in Paris over the next few months? Need an excuse to go? The only reason I ever need to visit Paris in the spring is the possibility that I might find myself strolling on the banks of the Seine in the mist— straight out of a Doisneau photo. However, if you’re looking […]

Parc de Belleville Belleville is a neighborhood in the northeastern part of Paris. Perched on the city’s second highest hill, Belleville was originally a city of its own. In 1860, it was annexed by Paris. The neighborhood has historically been working class, home to alternative artists and musicians, and the breeding ground of leftist and […]

One of my favorite things to do when visiting Paris is to see a play, whether at the illustrious Comédie Française or at one of Paris’ many independent theaters. The French have an approach to theater that will seem different to Americans (even theater buffs).
