Austin, the capital city of Texas is also among the fastest growing, and most exciting cities in the United States. Whenever I hear the word Austin, countless images comes into my mind. If I describe Austin in brief, I will say it’s a mixture of old and new wonders that glorifies the city’s nature. This city has a rich historic past. Originally, the name of this city was Waterloo due to the abundance of springs and creeks in this area. The history will come alive if you spend little time at the Texas State Cemetery, which is the final resting place of several high-flying Texans; Bremond Block, which is an area of grand 19th century mansions; the antebellum Governor’s Mansion; and over 220 other landmarks.
I have explored as much landmarks as possible just to get into the history of past life. The new Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum will also express the colorful history of the state to an extent. Austin is not only a historic city but is also called as a green city. The city enjoys mild year round climate with a river running from its provinces, and feels proud for its natural beauty. It has a unique green landscape that was shaped by the Greenbelts, waterways and pockets of undeveloped land. With continuous 68 degree waters, this city becomes the favorite place that offers Barton Spring pool to get chilled off on a hot sunny day.
Austin is also called as the Music Capital of the World. It generates a sweet harmony through its remarkably diverse race background and love of the alternative lifestyle. Right at the downtown we took a fresh breath at the Lower Colorado River. It has a set of seven manmade lakes along this river. The best part, which I liked a lot, is the activity of hike and bike trails that encloses the lake with 10 miles of distance. And did you know that President Bush regularly jogged to this place while he was the governor of Texas? We spent three days exploring all of these attractions and today I woke up early, as I was routinely doing the same from past few days, and went to climb the Mount Bonnel with my friends.
After reaching at the top, we enjoyed the magnificent views of Lake Austin and Colorado River, which is truly amazing. That was a great day, enjoying the sunny and warm climate, climbing and walking around to explore the beautiful landscapes. Everything seems like the city was arranged in a manner to look a set of breathtaking attraction. Everything was organized so well – rivers, buildings and structures and other attractions. My wish to visit Texas Capitol finally became possible on fifth day. I love to make some historic tourism as well and the trip was nice.
My friends told me about the 5 Cout of Arms that I was about to see in the Capitol and their every words was encouraging my interest. Still our trip has no end…we head towards the farther upstream and spent a quality time at Lake Austin and Lake Travis where we met various visitors and shared few of our experiences in Austin. They suggested us their own opinion to go for other attractions as they really felt them fascinating. Well both of the lakes attract many visitors to enjoy the activities like boating, fishing, water skiing, windsurfing and scuba diving.
As we all know that Austin is a home to the University of Texas and is among the largest universities in the United States. If I talk about the enrollment of this university then you will get a jerk after listening that it has nearly 50,000 students. I was wondering, how if I give a nickname to this city as young Austin? Seems like a name of a person…anyways, but it’s a fact that with so many young people in the city Austin could also be recognized as a young city. Well, well, let me tell you that Austin is also a major cultural hub. So perhaps the young’s have a half share of contributions.
This is among the only few cities in United States that still features professional ballet, symphony, opera and theater companies. Huh, the city has total 20 museums, some 3 dozen galleries, and 35 opera theater companies, making the city feel pride. I must say that you should try out the first thing, picking up an Austin Chronicle newspaper, after reaching to this city. This will guide you to everything about what is happening in the city. Oops! About the festivals and events in the city my friends…In fact, you will be updated with the music, theatre and food as well.
