Dauphin, Manitoba is a city of about 8,000 people on the northern slopes of the Riding Mountain National Park. It was founded in 1898 as a transport center for grain and settled by British and Ukrainian immigrants. Today, Dauphin is the home of Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival, celebrated with dance, music, crafts and food every August. A restored homestead and church of the Ukrainian Heritage Village acknowledges the waves of Ukrainians who settled around this area while the Ukrainian Homestead Museum at Winnipeg Beach has log buildings and agricultural equipment used by this ethnic group.
